Bainbridge to “The Reed”
In early 2025, the familiar Bainbridge name officially disappeared from 15955 Frederick Road in Rockville. Along with the signage, the apartment complex that opened over a decade ago has undergone a complete rebranding. The property is now known simply as “The Reed”—a name steeped in local history.
Before it became a residential community, the property was home to Reed Brothers Dodge, a landmark automobile dealership with deep roots in Montgomery County. Founded in 1915 by Lewis Reed, it was one of the first Dodge dealerships in the nation and operated for nearly a century. The name “The Reed” now stands as a tribute to that remarkable legacy.
Even prior to the name change, subtle homages to the dealership were already integrated into the complex:
- Street lamps designed to resemble Dodge Hemi engine pistons
- Floor plan names inspired by classic Dodge vehicle models
- A dedicated public art installation honoring the site’s automotive past
Though the developers haven’t publicly explained the change, the choice of name is a powerful gesture—one that honors the entrepreneurial spirit, resilience, and historical relevance of Reed Brothers Dodge and its founder.
The renaming offers residents a connection to the story of the land they live on, turning a modern living space into a quiet celebration of Rockville’s automotive heritage.
